A mosaic First Year Anniversary gift

Hi,

As mentioned yesterday, here are the pictures of the mosaic project that I started last night.

First of all I bought this plaque at a reduced price as the print was upside down (the second time I've found one like this if you check out my Pinterest board!!).

I adore its beautiful shape though so it was PERFECT for the purpose.

My friends have a teal and coffee colour scheme so I had to try and find colours that would complement this.

I found a single vintage plate with a brown print and bluish green highlight which seemed perfect.

(Yes, the red flecks are indeed my blood! My projects always leave me cut, blistered or sore!)

I arranged the pieces to edge the shape with smooth sides out.

Then I had to fill in the inside.

I wanted a colour that would not clash.

I decided to use a white Wedgwood cake plate in embossed Queens Ware that had fallen out of my previously overcrowded cupboards.

It was perfect!!!!

It has a lace look about it and makes the whole overall effect very expensive and vintage looking.

Then I had to decide how to proceed with detailing.

I decided to use 2 pretty vintage teaspoons as it is a gift for a married couple.

I then decided to use some pearly beads off a broken necklace to create a heart feature.

I also used a cream rose ornament off a hair clip and a leaf off a broken bone china rose ornament (I buy such things deliberately for such projects as I see potential use in things that folk would throw away. I could happily be a womble!)

Then it all had to dry overnight:

This morning I have grouted the plaque and it is all coming together very well:

Yes, I really DID leave the front room in such a shambles last night!!!

I was tired, ok?!

:)

So later I need to polish it up and string on the vintage cup that matches the outer plate pieces (...you may also wish to note that I have tidied up!!):

Then I need to string on the hanging rope too and put it somewhere VERY safe until Friday when we go out with our friends to celebrate their day :)

EDIT (adding this here for Pinterest users to see the final product):

Tada:

.....

The rest of the days activities that I will do inbetween my mundane daily tasks will be to wax the mosaic stool legs and distress it and then to do a few further things to the dressing table. :)

Pictures of the finalised projects will be on a future blog post.

Have a great day, peeps x x x
