Today has been all about getting a table finished.
I bought this a week or so ago:
It got the chalk treatment in French grey and then last night I got busy smashing some vintage local pottery:
Then it was a case of arranging them roughly how I wished.
(I keep the rounded edge pieces to the edge to make it less likely to snag a passerby's clothes:)
Then it was my favourite part (...actually joint favourite part with the smashing), getting messy!!!
My hands are SO unladylike!!
It dried overnight to allow for touch ups today and tidying the pieces:
It still needs more chalk paint to take the colour right up to the ceramic and then distressing and waxing but it's looking good:
I will certainly be doing this again. It was SO much fun!!!
I will be finishing it off tonight now.
Its a shame my house has limited space. (Why oh why should Dr Who have the best house in the universe.)
....
I am still working on the dressing table.
It is a bit of a chore as it had to be structurally sorted out.
It will get there!
I have decided to run with the 'Cath Kidston' appeal, after all:
This one was meant to be a sheer labour of love initially as I really wanted to do something overly feminine and lovely as having male offspring has denied me the pleasures!!!
I envisioned a much more pleasant experience as was the mosaic!!! :(
Ah well! It is all experience, I guess.
But...
... I have picked up an almost identical one which is on the boot of my car (actually, it is taking up the entire back half of my car as the seats are down!)
This one has an intact mirror and no flaws to be remedied.
This one WILL be a labour of love but it has to live in my car until my 'workshop' (AKA: the dining room) has room to accommodate it.
....
Speaking of labours of love, I am about to start a mosaic to give as a present to friends of mine for their first anniversary.
I can't wait to get started.
I've never gifted one before so I hope they will enjoy receiving it as much as I shall enjoy customising it just for them!!!
Pics will be on a later blog post....
